California is having major budgeting issues! With the Balanced Budget Amendment, they cannot have a deficit! That means that their revenues (including loans) and their expenses MUST equal zero. The recession has caused a major drop in revenues. In addition, CA bonds currently have a very low rating (the lowest of all 50 states!), so they are having a difficult time finding people who want to buy them. Therefore, they only have two choices: increase taxes or decrease spending.

Should CA axe poison control?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, axe the poison control center would change nothing. like they said it might be cost 7 billion each years, but the phone calls that are evaluat by a profetional, to see if it is necesary for a person to go to the hospital or not save a lot of time and so, a lot of money. because of this hospital are less accuped by people who are not in danger. and police man and urgence are not calls every second.
in conclusion the poison center save life, save money, and save time for everybody.
California is maybe in hard position, but axe the poison center would not be a good solution.
even if the Governor said that he will not increas taxes, i think he will need to.

I think this is not a good idea. A poison control center is a medical facility that is able to provide immediate, free, and expert treatment advice and assistance over the telephone in case of exposure to poisonous or hazardous substances. If the person who ask for advise make mistakes, it is going to be worse. I think it is a quick advise but it's not going to work all the time. SO IT IS A BAD IDEA.

ReplyDeletePoison control should be cut. Even though, the program has just a spending of 7 billion, which could make a difference with the current crisis. Poison control program receive around 1.000 calls per day. However, it is known that only 16% of the cases require hospitalization, which means that 84% does not require hospitalization, being more than the half, the statistic show that the program is not inefficient but no required. Furthermore, the only concern about the cut of that program is the possible retirement of the program in other states. In as much as, if the program is maintain in other states having a meeting among governors of the other states, the cut of the program would be successful.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, poison control is not an esencial invest because many countries around the world have more serious problem with snakes, spiders, est. more than California. The rate of mortality is almost nothing than the people who go to the hospital, for serious deseases. Therefore, if this program is bringing several economic problems such as spend seven billions. The cut off of this program have to be inmediatly with out reviewing with other governments.
